How do I know you’re not a free thinker?
Because you fight for things that will affect your life in a negative way
You fight for the rights of corporations to keep paying you a pittance
You fight against the right to have health care even as you can’t afford an illness
You fight against the right to birth control even as you can’t feed those you have
You fight against regulations that keep your food and drinks safe to consume
Because you can claim with a straight face and no inner debate:
That sexuality is a choice, when you’ve never made such a choice
That gender is binary, while using words like effeminate, tomboy, manly
That kneeling on a man’s neck for 9’26” can’t possibly be cause of death
That tax cuts for the rich somehow benefit you even as you struggle to make ends meet
Because you can assert in your absurd ignorance
That racism is a thing of the past as you watch it unfolding before your eyes
That true history can brainwash you while claiming an open mind
That banning books is great, while bemoaning your loss of free speech
That immigrants are a scourge in a nation of immigrants
Because you deny your own eyes and ears with ease
Claiming a bloody assault on the Capitol was a peaceful protest
Bestowing chrislike status on a man who mocks the poor and disabled
Denying climate change as you stand in the waters of unprecedented floods
Rejecting medical science as you struggle to breathe
How do I know you’re not a free thinker?
Because you do not think, you repeat things you’ve heard and read
Because you do not analyse what you’ve read or heard
Because you cannot defend your views with your own words
Because presented with evidence, you refuse to change your mind.
