One of my favorite characters on Saturday Night Live was Jon Lovitz as Tommy Flanagan, the pathological liar. It was funny then that somebody could only speak lies. And then we got Donald Trump. But, for a short while there was George Santos.

George has been trying to earn money in various ways in order to pay off the fines that he owes. But that isn't going to get him out of jail time. That seems to be certain.

He's got an Apple podcast on at 7:00 p.m. ET on Sundays with a show called "Pants On Fire with George Santos." It's a gossip show. But there's another character on the show. Naja Hall is George's fact checker. That's where the comedy on the show comes in. They duke it out over George's lies.

George and Naja.

She's way too good looking to be on a show with him.

But strange things happen in life. George is one of the strangest.

The judge was going to sentence him in February, but his lawyer successfully argued that Santos only had $1,000 in liquid assets and he needed time in order to make money on his "Pants On Fire" podcast. The judge gave him a 3-month reprieve.

As part of his sentence, Santos agreed to pay $375,000 in restitution, and $200,000 in forfeiture.

Santos's lawyers are arguing for a 2-year sentence, the minimum for what he had done, while the prosecutors want more than 7 years in prison.

The prosecutors say that because of his notoriety, Santos had made more than $800,000 on Cameo, and that he was unrepentant. Just where did that money go? Why is he unable to pay the fines without launching his podcast?

"From his creation of a wholly fictitious biography to his callous theft of money from elderly and impaired donors, Santos's unrestrained greed and voracious appetite for fame enabled him to exploit the very system by which we select our Representatives."

George had called the prosecution a witch hunt, and, of course, there was his refusal to resign from Congress after being exposed. They said his claims of remorse after pleading guilty "rang hollow" and that he had a high likelihood of repeating the offenses again. I really wonder about that. How would anybody get fooled by George Santos now? They would literally have to be born yesterday. Or they would have to be very old, and not following the news.

Looking at George Santos's X account, he doesn't seem to be repentant at all. Quite the opposite. Even using Republican's favorite ploy of whataboutism.

Two of George's campaign staffers also have faced the music. Sam Miele, his campaign fundraiser, was sentenced in March to one year and one day for having impersonated a high-ranking congressional aide and charging people's credit cards without authorization.

Nancy Marks, Santos's campaign treasurer, admitted to filing bogus campaign finance reports containing ficticious donors and helped create that fake $500,000 loan that Santos did for his own campaign. She was due to be sentenced in April of last year, but got a 7 month reprieve, but delayed it again and is now scheduled for May.

Santos's lawyers also argued that George was entirely cooperative in the case of a Texas man who tried to steal a million dollars from Santos by posing as a fixer who could destroy the evidence in his case. Somehow a scammer testifying against a scammer doesn't quite cut it.

Santos got his 3-month delay and he is now scheduled to be sentenced on April 25th.

Here's the very first Episode of Pants on Fire with George and Naja on YouTube.

"Taking a plea deal was never on my bingo card. Ever."

The first two and a half minutes are worth watching but you're going to go, "What the hell?!?"

Just if you want to see that he hasn't changed one bit. He deserves jail.
