WYFP - I Changed My Mind. They Can't Shoot Us All. MARCH! [1]

So when people started talking about marching in the streets I said it was bullshit, and it would be an excuse to declare martial law. I might have even said something about it being a nostalgic fantasy that makes boomers feel good about themselves, or something similarly shitty. Well, I changed my mind on that. And here’s why: a youtube channel — Parkrose Permaculture.

She’s probably within a decade of my age, though she came from a now deconstructed fundamentalist Christian background, so she probably married early and had kids fast. But she has 2 kids in their 20s, so not that far off, but light years ahead of me in awareness. She used to be a Libertarian, and recovered from that as well.

So what does she do exactly? Sit in front of a camera and provide little snippets of in depth information, often while wearing mini guillotines in her ears. But holy shit, she sees so much. She lives in Portland, Oregon, which is a big blue dot in a red state. She reports on town halls around the area, she talks about other videos she sees, she talks about things that bother her about where we are and where we are going — but provides solutions that are real life and local, that you can do where you live, or by contacting your representatives. And sometimes she talks about selfcare and permaculture.

Oh — and she is all about the resistance being a real thing we should all strive for. I was skeptical, but I kept listening, and subscribed to her channel. And slowly I began to agree with her. They can’t fucking drown us all out with their bots and their stans. They can't shoot or arrest us all if we march or strike. And rolling boycotts are having an impact on businesses. They don’t like it.

I really enjoyed FAFO until I watched this video. Because I don’t feel good about the people suffering, even people who aren’t like me. That momentary laugh doesn’t sit well hours later, when I think about the people that will be affected beyond the people who are being mocked.

This wasn’t on my radar yet, but it is now. The nazis came after the trans and queer people first, then the disabled and disabled children in particular, then the communists, socialists, unionists and eventually the Jews, the Romani/Roma and the slavs. The killings started with the disabled kids. We’re there now on the list of nazi shit the GQP are doing while no one is watching.

So yeah, big fan now. Email my reps fairly often these days, and even sometimes call the bastards as a change of pace. They don’t respond to my emails anymore. Of course I might have suggested that one or two of them weren’t the sharpest tools in the shed, too. I probably should work on that.

One of the things she does is explains how the real world works to her MAGA fans — a lot of MAGAs are into prepping and permaculture it seems, so she has a fair amount of right wing followers. It’s intentional on her part, and I agree with the concept. Keep asking those hard questions until the light bulb comes on with those that you know or are related to.

My mum didn’t think much of the erasure of trans people in all government services, but was shocked when I told her it meant my testosterone wouldn’t be covered anymore because I have Medicare. She didn’t see how it affected her or anyone she knew, now she does. I still haven’t sold her on the US getting out of NATO is a really really bad idea, but one step at a time.
