IAN: April 6, 2025 - things I've been thinking about [1]

Itzl was a hearing assist dog for the woman who started this group. It’s been 12 years at least — I suspect he’s over the rainbow bridge at this point.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Speculations on dark matter.

From Martha Stewart: Burrata vs. mozzarella, a discussion of cheeses.

How the Silk Road actually worked.

Easy Caldo Verde recipe

Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage. There’s a group in Massachusetts that has been cleaning trash out of ponds since 2018. A fair number of the members are in their 80s.

One-bowl chocolate cake

Archaeologists have found one victim of Vesuvius whose brain was somehow turned into glass.

From Brodo: Italian spring vegetable stew

Cloud shapes and what they mean.

Chicken korma recipe. It says cilantro or parsley — Italian parsley is my go-to substitute for cilantro. Cilantro doesn’t taste like soap to me, but I do know several people who do have that problem.

Tax rates compared among the 50 states.

From Allrecipes: the best potato for mashing

I have decided what to do about my taxes, and it is done. Now, all I need to do is finish submitting them before the 15th. I will have a year to consider 2025.

I have my new health insurance, but I need to get it to the people I use it with.

It took a couple of tries to get the new ink cartridge installed in my printer. Is fine now.

Time and time and time again. There is very little variation in my daily life. Oddly enough, I don’t actually find any of it boring. I’m doing things I have enjoyed my whole life.

The reports I’ve been seeing online make the HandsOff demonstrations look absolutely massive — even in the smaller towns. I’m not there — I’ve been throwing money at the organizations that have been bringing the lawsuits.

Next on the agenda, for real finish cleaning the kitchen. Then find places for the books that are sitting around waiting to be put away.

Love you guys!
