Hands Off OKC [1]

Despite delay in getting on the Mobilize map, Oklahoma had at least two very large Hands Off events today — OKC and Tulsa — and several smaller events.
Shown here is a fraction of the Oklahoma City crowd, which defied very cold weather to turn out in large numbers. Pouring rain stopped just before the rally’s onset, but apparently failed to deter those (like myself) arriving from remote locations. For those not up for the drive, there were modest but enthusiastic sign-holdings in small towns around the state.
I was especially pleased by the quality of the speakers, only one of whom (stellar OK House Rep Andy Fugate) was an office-holder or candidate. Speakers for the organizing movements, 50/50/1 and Indivisible among them of course, alternated with short statements from crowd members, who were eloquent too. Everyone with a powerful personal story linked it to the larger issue of our nation’s future. My favorite quip, however, was from Fugate. When someone in the crowd called out for him to run for Governor, the self-effacing legislator responded, “Your suggestion just shows how Kevin Stitt has lowered the bar.”
There were poster parties a’plenty during the week.
