Trump Imposes Largest Tax Hike in History as Grover Norquist Takes a Nap [1]

What on earth happened to “No New Taxes”? Have Republicans completely lost it? Its hard to believe the sheer lack of concern on the part of Republicans, with the notable and minuscule exception of McConnell, Collins, Murkowski, and Paul (Ind) grousing about tariffs on Canada. After kowtowing to Grover Norquist for decades in reverence to the No New Taxes Pledge, the once fiscally conservative Republican Party is not only in favor of record tax cuts, but is now also in favor of a stupendous tax hike that will hit lower and middle income families hardest.

Worst yet, they are arguing that slashing the government workforce supporting basic services, which only the government can provide, is necessary to support that multi trillion dollar tax cut for the ultra wealthy. That in spite of the fact that the entire federal workforce constitutes only about 6% of all federal general fund spending and the savings will be microscopic.

Where in the world is Grover? Why is he not howling from the roof tops of DC? Prices on imported goods, which means about everything Walmart sells, are set to have a tax of between 20 and 50 percent applied. The blue light special is going to morph into the red light special as consumers, who drive the US economy, STOP SPENDING. Then, not only will there be little to no tariff tax revenue to “bring the wealth back to America”, but there will be no economic activity and sales tax revenue supporting state and city budgets which will evaporate. This will make the Dot Com Bubble recession look like a birthday party. Any dream of manufacturing returning to America will be decades in materializing, if our crippled economy can last that long.

While all this is happening, the stock market is tanking, and Trump is declaring that “Everything is going just as I predicted. The economy will be booming.” KABOOMING is more like it. Welcome to Bizarro World 2.0 where everything is upside down and backwards. The only thing that Trump is making great again is Russia, as he destroys the US government, undoes sanctions on Putin’s oligarch buddies, and rolls out the red carpet to invite Russia into the warm embrace of the late great bastion of freedom, the United States of America.
