In the midst of Chaos... live! [1]

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I’ll say it until it becomes a habit for you.

It’s easy to give into despair and let yourself be dragged down with all that is going on, that is when you must take the time to also live and yes enjoy the moments you can. For if you don’t, you’ll soon forget what is it that makes life worth living and by extension fighting for and you will give up.

Anne Frank found moments to live for, hidden in an attic. Soldiers in WWII found moments to share gifts and songs with the enemy. Ukrainians still get married, have babies, laugh and love in the midst of a brutal war. Haitian sing songs and smile surrounded by gangs and death.

Find moments to celebrate and come together, if you can’t find them create them. What does a child need for their birthday? Love, songs, silliness, a gift or two. Don’t have the means to go to the movies? Create a movie night at home. Don’t have the means to go out to eat? Make diner a family event, make it a game. Have singalongs, go out for walks to nowhere, plant a garden, learn a new language, play with a baby or a pet, read a book, tutor a child, make art, this is the time to forge bonds and create lasting memories.

It doesn’t take money to enjoy what makes life worth living and fighting for. Money makes life easier but does not increase its worth.

I’ve been in almost abject poverty since Nate’s difficult birth, loss my job, got sick, my kid is sick, hell I still sleep on a mattress on a floor, but we are happy, not despondent. We eat, have a roof, and we love, what more do we need?

We need a reason to keep fighting and thus we need a reason to live, and that is why it is important that we live even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty.

It goes without saying that I am not addressing people who suffer from depression here, I feel I have to point this out for someone will always come along and miss context.
