We’re witnessing major law firms buckle under the weight of Trump’s threats. Take Paul Weiss, for example. The nearly 150-year-old firm agreed to provide $40 million in pro bono legal services to avoid being federally blackballed — partly due to one of its former attorneys overseeing an investigation into Trump’s finances before he became president.
With so much negative news swirling around, it’s easy to feel a sense of hopelessness. But there’s a silver lining: There are still firms fighting the good fight. One of the most prominent among them is Democracy Forward.
Democracy Forward spent 18 months preparing for the challenges a second Trump presidency would bring. Using the Heritage Foundation's 900-page far-right policy blueprint, Project 2025, the organization carefully crafted legal strategies to counter the radical agenda it predicted.
The success of Democracy Forward lies in this foresight. Their ability to map out and execute these strategies has made them a leading force in courtroom resistance to Trump’s policies.
As lawsuits pile up against the administration — over 130 in just two months — Democracy Forward is emerging as a key player, slowing down, if not halting, the administration’s more aggressive and legally questionable actions.
I’ve started making small donations to support their work. Sometimes, we need to remind ourselves that there are people actively fighting back against this administration, even if it’s not always covered by the mainstream media. It's easy to feel helpless, but it’s in the authoritarian playbook to make us believe we are.
They are smart proactive organizations that believe in the promise of America. That get into good trouble.
