I watched the stock market tank today. MSNBC had a little box in the corner of the screen all day tallying the damages. The stock market closes at 1:pm local time here in Portland. At closing, the talking heads all read the numbers with somewhat shocked looks on their professional faces.
Then, one by one, foreign leaders came before the camera and said that America was done. Treaties were no longer possible because Trump (America) could no longer be regarded as a reliable, loyal ally. The Australian PM made the point that until Trump, the USA had been a reliable security partner. With Trump’s abandonment of NATO leadership, the Pacific looks a lot different.
Trump spent the day golfing, and will party the night away at Mara Largo.
I spend these days tethered to an Oxygen machine, my laptop and the venerable cable teevee. We are fortunate for what we are, two retirees living on Social Security and a small state pension, reasonably healthy, excepting for my failing lungs. I fear there are some dark days ahead. At our ages, we feel more vulnerable than ever before. Trumpism is turning out to be a terrible way to run things.
Tomorrow, from my front seat to the world of cable news, I’ll see what kind of a National Noise ‘we’ can make on the first mass gathering called of Trump 2.0. Get out and be heard and seen tomorrow!! This is history. Take pictures.
