I keep talking about racism, because you don't [1]

Do you know the number of times I’ve seen a white person write about the failings of white people when it comes to racial issues? Less than a handful. The only time I see white people talking about racial anything, it is usually on some Black person timeline where they jump in to pile on some other white person who made a gaffe, or when they quote an article, meme, post that trashes Black people.

To be sure I’m talking about my own reach / circle / network on social media, but in that same circle I see them do other writings, posts, videos… so I don’t think I’m missing the racial debates they are having with their peers. Reactions yes, original content, not so much. And that is why it’s up to us Black folks to keep talking about it. But then there’s always the string of white women (and yes it is usually the women) who quicky jump in to say “NOT ALL WHITE WOMEN! NOT ME! DON’T GENERALIZE!” and if you’re tired of hearing about it, I’m exhausted writing about it.

The weird thing is, that when you yourselves jump in to defend a Black voice, here are some of the things you say… it’s not up to Black folks to educate us, it’s not up to Black folks to save us, the train is never late, I’m here to collect you, don’t tone police black folks… you know what you don’t do? Educate, you have one liners and zingers and things that yes make us laugh, but you don’t actually tell your peers… why they shouldn’t do x or y… it’s a free for all, let’s all jump on this white person. And let’s be crystal clear here, I’m talking about white people doing this, don’t you dare say Black folks do it too, it’s not the same thing.

So my question is this, when is it that you do this education of your peers you keep talking about? Why do you have to wait for someone to err on some Black person’s timeline to jump them? Why am I not seeing independent threads, posts etc… from you educating your peers? Because you do say “it’s not Black folks job to educate us”. I’m really curious. To me it is simply that it never crossed your mind did it?

That’s part of the problem right there, for while you are saying it, you are not actually picking up the slack and doing the work, because it never crosses your mind, unconsciously you are still depending on Black folks to do the work for you. So I decided maybe if I pointed it out you’d realize it and do something about it?

Maybe Black folks wouldn’t have to talk so much about racial issues, if there were white voices out there loudly preaching to, and educating their peers. And I don’t mean influencers, just to be even clear… I mean you regular internet user, white folk with small or big followings.
