An Opportunity for Unity [1]

Sometimes it’s just human nature, we can agree more enthusiastically on the things that we hate.
The recent elections in Wisconsin and Florida have shown us that we finally have a great uniting consensus brewing in this country — our widely shared hatred for Elon Musk.
Whether you hate him for “DOGE” and the reckless dismantling of critical American institutions and programs, his shameless manipulation of voters and the public, or any of a host of other reasons, most of them valid, and far too many to enumerate, those are great conversations we can have with our still-somehow-supporting-Trump next-door neighbors. The Americans who we’ve been avoiding for eight years.
America needs consensus — our entire republic was designed with the intent that little can get done without getting a consensus behind it. I am not saying all is fine now; tell them honestly what you think and know about Trump and you will touch on their cognitive dissonance and the conversation will almost certainly be over, quickly and badly. So don’t do that. Don’t imagine we are there yet and Trump’s hold on these people has been broken. But see where we are. Musk is not Trump. There is a window here. We have an opportunity. We can recognize the consensus when and where we have it, carefully cultivate it, and see where it can lead to unified action. Trump has already seen the today’s polling and election results and said he has decided to follow the law this time and have Musk leave “soon.” If we can, together, force his departure “sooner,” that small, shared victory might just remind us who has the power, when Americans can find the unity to stand together against something.
