Thanx, Cory. Now it’s time for all Senate Dems to STOP giving unanimous consent [1]

What Cory did was wonderful. It was gratifying to finally see a Dem do something to effectively slow down our country’s frog-march to fascism. Now what I want to see is more filibusters and for Senate Dems to stop giving unanimous consent.
There are multiple points when a bill can be stopped or significantly slowed down in the senate. One of them is when a procedural matter about the bill needs to be handled before it can move to the next step. Things like “let’s debate this bill at such and such a time on such and such a date”. Because these are procedural matters and not substantial issues about the bill itself, senators routinely grease the skids for these and unanimously consent to them. Without these consents, Senate business grinds to a crawl.
This is one of the most powerful tools the minority has in the senate, and Dems are wilfully and intentionally NOT using it. Meantime, this was one of the ways that republicans routinely stalled Dems when they were in the minority.
Tommy Tuberville stopped promotions of every single senior military officer in the country for months just by putting blanket holds on them. Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Lindsay Graham and multiple others routinely threw every wrench they could think of to gum up the senate from moving forward on Dem initiatives.
Our democracy is literally being dismantled, piece by piece, every single day now. I’m really sick of Dems not using every single tool they have to slow down, thwart and stop this mal-administration. We need more filibusters and for Senate Dens to stop giving unanimous consent.
