I watched NCAA basketball over the weekend. I have a difficult time watching trump on TV. I avoid the GOP News Trust, and find something else to watch. I do what I can to avoid watching traitors celebrate the defeat of the United States of America, and the celebration of the Confederate victory by trump and musk.
I had an idea that since Democratic politicians, other than Cory Booker and a select few others such as AOC and Jasmine Crockett, are willing to stand up to the GOP march through our long-fought victories in Civil Rights, it might be time for our citizens to take up the fight. My idea is that high school athletes could speak louder than anyone by simply boycotting the Southern States that choose to wave the Confederate flag.
How would a group of 18 year old athletes do what our Democratic politicians are unable to do?
Really it is simple. In the movie, the Longest Yard, Adam Sandler played the role of an NFL Super Bowl winning quarterback who is sent to prison, As a convict, Sandler is required to quarterback the convict football team against the Warden’s prison guards. Early in the game, it is apparent that the referees are calling every play against the convicts and to the benefits of the guards. Sandler drops back to pass, then throws a bullet pass, errant, off-target, but it hits one of the referees direct to the groin, and the referee goes down, obviously in intense pain. On the next play, Sandler again drops back to pass, again throws a bullet, again errant, off-target and strikes another referee in the groin. Sandler apologizes and explains that when the referees begin to call a fair game, his aim might improve..
There is nothing more sacred in the Confederate States than their beloved football. There are now 16 teams in the Southeast Conference:
1. Alabama
2, Arkansas
3. Auburn
4. Florida
5. Georgia
6. Kentucky
7. Louisiana State University (LSU)
8. Mississippi State University (Ole Miss)
9. Mississippi State
10. Missouri
11. Oklahoma
12. South Carolina
13. Tennessee
14. Texas
15. Texas A & M
16 Vanderbilt
These Universities represent the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. These 12 States have a population of almost 107 million people, and control 160 Electoral votes.
Anyone who has ever lived in one of these 12 states knows how important their sports teams are to the residents of those states. During the most recent presidential election, Trump received the Electoral votes in all 12 of these Confederate States. We do not need to call them “Southern States”. They wave the Confederate flag at their sporting events. They worship the Confederate heroes who fought against the United States of America during the US Civil War. They want to restore the names of Confederate heroes at United States Military bases. They fought, and continue to fight, all Civil Rights legislation. They still continue to worship the Confederate traditions. They really see nothing wrong with segregation and would really like to deny an education to all Black students — except the star athletes.
These 12 States’ total population of 107 million people is 31.43% of the total United States population of 340.1 million people. However, these 12 states have 160 members of the United States Congress — representing a total of 36.52% of all Congressional Representatives. Of the 160 Congressional Representatives, 136 are lock-step Republicans — a total of 85% of all the Congressional Representatives from the Confederate States are Republicans. The 136 Republican Representatives from the Confederate States represent 61.81% of the Republican majority in the United States Congress!
So, how can a few high school athletes compete against this Republican juggernaut that has this Nation’s Democratic politicians in a coma?
Simple. Boycott the 16 SEC Universities representing the 12 Confederate States. There are other great universities, other athletic conferences, other great schools, and other great athletic programs. Instead of returning to the states that yearn for a return to the days of segregation and slavery, look at other State universities: California, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming. Instead of states that are still controlled by the absurd idea of White Supremacy, celebrate the equality of all People!
These are not rigid Democratic strongholds, some have Republican majorities, but not 85% control by one party.
Demand recognition by the State’s government of Civil Rights of all People.
Demand a pledge from State leaders to establish and protect the rights of all people within the state.
Demand establishment of non-partisan redistricting within each state for all state and federal offices.
Demand the protection of voting rights for the citizens of each state.
When these State Universities which comprise the Southeastern Conference (SEC) see their teams unable to compete with other national universities on the athletic field, they will react just as the referees who were rolling on the ground in pain after the football had struck them in the groin!
Who could lead a Boycott of the SEC?\
The answer to this question is on Social Media. The answer is not the usual voices. The answer is not the usual means of organization. This generation is not guided by radio and television. The influence will not come from the mass media.
The leaders of 50501 are on the internet. There are townhalls being organized by young people with little or no previous experience. The question will be whether this generation wants to make an influence. Whether this generation wants to make a change? Whether this generation is satisfied with the sorry state of partisan Republican politics and all that represents?
The young athletes can be influenced by their friends and family.
