Opted out of customs photo, got flagged for inspection [1]

I’ve debated posting this for a couple of days, I’m afraid there’s not a lot to it, but I feel that I owe my community this information so I’m sharing it this morning.
We returned from a lovely vacation in Mexico, where we apologized to every Mexican we could about the state of our nation. It was just last Monday night. When my wife and I approached the customs booth Here in Minneapolis, the agent held up a small camera, and my wife held up her hand and said she was opting out. The agent told her it was required, she said it’s not and she’s opting out. He then asked me if I was opting out too, I said yes. He told us his system needed A reason. my wife said ‘because we don’t want to!’ He sighed and said I have to identify you and she said that’s what our passport photo is for. He looked at our passports, he asked me to take my glasses off, even though my passport picture has glasses. He then handed our passports back to us with a flag for a special inspection and we had to have our luggage scanned before we could go home. We were furious, this has never happened to us before. We had opted out when we went through security on our way out of the country as well with no problem. We have TSA pre-check so they have our pictures already.
Oh, and my wife is 83 and was in a wheelchair, so there’s that.
