So Chuck, what are you going to do when Trump crosses your red line? [1]

Democratic Senate Caucus Leader Chuck Schumer recently said that the USA isn’t in a constitutional crisis yet, not until Trump directly violates a Supreme Court ruling.
Let’s put aside for a moment an elephant tramping around the room that is the fact that this stance means he and other leading Democrats find it acceptable that the Supreme Court has ruled that the president cannot be prosecuted for anything related to governing the country, no matter how atrocious and murderous, something that should instead mean that the Supreme Court is illegitimate to rule and that Democrats should act accordingly. Let’s also put aside another elephant, the fact that Democratic senators refusing to filibuster a budget that affirms that the chief oligarch and his pet executive can steal vast billions of dollars from congressionally-mandated public funds and sabotage any public service, no matter how vital… means that those senators (along with the universally fascist Republicans) fundamentally find what the Trump regime is doing to be acceptable and are violating their oaths of office. Let’s further put aside one more elephant, the fact that Democratic representatives bar one (again along with fascist Republicans) are refusing to introduce articles of impeachment for any Trump regime officials as they commit acts worthy of removal from office every day… and thus also find such atrocities fundamentally acceptable, in violation of their solemn oaths of office. They act like the 2024 election cancelled what the oath is supposed to mean. It did not!
All of that aside, when Trump does violate a Supreme Court ruling, what are you going to do, Chuck?
We already know the answer: nothing. Because Sen. Schumer has articulated nothing of consequence. Just to wait until the next election, which fascist Republicans are busily rigging via voter suppression. And as we were just reminded during the “continuing resolution” fiasco, even if Sen. Schumer were to lead the Democrats in any appropriately drastic action, such things take preparing public opinion in advance.*
Because what if Sen. Schumer and Rep. Jeffries actually were to do something drastic? Like do any of the above possibilities or anything comparable, to signal to the public that what is happening is fundamentally unacceptable? Something like refusing consent to any motion in the Senate and even explicitly calling the illegal regime illegitimate and worthy of immediate material accountability and replacement?
Ah, but that would mean directly challenging straight white Christian male supremacism and robber baron material dominance. It would mean calling neoliberal capitalist empire—the ideology of establishment leaders like Sen. Schumer, what they actually stand for as they pretend to stand for nothing (and do a pretty good job of it)—into question. And between the maintenance of that ideology and the wishes of the top party funders, whose funding stream party establishment leaders value more than winning against Republicans or even life itself,** we can’t be having any of that.
So, Sen. Schumer, prove me wrong. When the Trump regime crosses your red line, what grand action will you take to turn the country back from the abyss? What confrontation would you stage, with what leverage?
Tragically, it almost doesn’t matter, because by then the likelihood is high that it will be too late.
And by doing nothing, now and then, Sen. Schumer is taking up the space where an anti-fascist leader in the mold of FDR should be harnessing national outrage. Purposefully undermining the populist power of mass moral outrage. Thus actively enabling Trump/Musk/MAGA fascism.
* Which is a major reason to introduce privileged resolutions of impeachment and force floor votes, to ratchet up the expectation for the next even more vile atrocity that a Trump regime official will assuredly commit.
** Considering global warming, species extinctions, the risk of nuclear war, permanent pollution, etc.
Among everything going on with joining organizations, protests, court cases, pressure against Musk’s and other fascist-supporting businesses, forming neighborhood mutual aid groups, supporting assertive primary candidates, and the rest, let us demand that House Democrats file privileged resolutions of impeachment, with one article for each act meriting removal for each member of the Trump regime committing them, and force recorded votes. Actually use the formal mechanism for congresspeople to abide by their oaths of office to protect and defend the Constitution. Press the case with the public. Politically squeeze Republicans congresspeople. Put the idea in everyone’s minds that impeachment and removal is what should happen.
Rep. Green is drafting an article on bigotry against Palestinians and more. I came up with six more traditional articles of impeachment for Trump on day two, and that was an undercount. Heck, we can start tomorrow with impeaching everyone on the Yemen bombing Signal group chat. Please call or write your congressperson.
When in doubt, first tell the truth.
