Russian Losses Over Past 15 Months [1]

In this latest installment on Russian monthly losses in Ukraine, I’ve finally located a source for monthly territorial gains made by Russia, so I’m plotting them now against their personnel losses to produce a more graphic presentation of the data. While the Russians were making some fairly significant territorial gains last Fall, their ‘progress’ has been steadily declining over the past four months.

March saw the least amount of territory seized by Moscow since June of last year (133 square kilometers, or not much more than 4 km2 per day), even though casualties remain disturbingly high at around 1300 per day.

March also saw the highest daily loss level of artillery yet seen at nearly 55 pieces per day — though since the cumulative number of losses now equals the entire inventory the Russians were thought to possess at the start of their invasion more than three years ago, one does start to wonder just how the Kremlin manages to keep fielding ever more guns.

Similarly, UAV and noncombat vehicle losses continue to be at or near their all-time highs, though tank and AFV losses were somewhat lower than last month.
