I canceled Verizon TV to defund Fox and CNN [1]

I had been contemplating canceling Verizon TV ever since MSNBC let Joy Reid go. I haven’t tuned in to FOX since around 2003. I stopped watching CNN a little before Election Day 2024. I thought CNN did a poor job covering the election. They treated it like a normal election.
I assumed that since I wasn’t watching FOX or CNN they weren’t getting money from me. And then I learned that if the Verizon or Cox wire entering your home has FOX and CNN as part of the bundle, they are making money off you. I definitely can’t fund FOX. Scott Jennings is a paid contributor at CNN and I don’t want to fund that. I hesitated canceling Verizon because I think MSNBC does a good job. However, every Verizon bundle with MSNBC included FOX and CNN. I didn’t like the way MSNBC executives treated Joy Reid. I’ll miss MSNBC anchors and legal analysts.
I have been getting my news from YouTube. For now, I have a wire that connects my laptop to my TV. I will watch the Masters Golf Tournament on my laptop at Masters.org. And then I will buy NFL streaming in the fall which will come into my laptop and connect to my TV because I like football on the big screen. I returned the Verizon equipment today. I will save $100 per month which I’ll spend on other things like boating and NFL streaming.
President Biden’s father told him, “don’t tell me what you value. Show me your budget and I’ll tell you what you value.” I value truth. So I will support independent media with views and likes. At some point, maybe I’ll purchase a paid subscription.
I didn’t want to damage MSNBC anchors but they can always go to You Tube to earn a living. I like the CNN anchors but suspect they are being told what they can and can’t say. I actually thought Nicolle Wallace did the best job covering Trump and all the ramifications from him.
Finally, I want everyone to know that your cable bundle probably has FOX and CNN. And that means they are making money from your monthly payment whether you tune in or not. Low ratings means they can charge less for advertisements but still get some of your money when you pay your bill. People can decide if they want to join me in moving their dollars somewhere else. Cable news will notice when the cancelations start piling up.
