Don’t stay away, they tell us
Think of your children, they say
Think of your family, they whisper
Join with us and rise with us, they tell us
Irony has lost its way
Wasn’t it the same, we said?
Not even 3 months past?
We’ve seen the invite to unite
Don’t mind if we decline
We’ve stored your promises
With shattered broken dreams
The box is over filled
We can’t add anything
Not one more hope or dream
We’ll sit this one out
Watch from the sidelines
Even cheer from afar
But we can’t participate
That would be a mistake
We cannot risk being scapegoats
If things go sideways
You’ve never understood
The meaning of collective good
Today you claim you get it
We want you to prove it
You’ve got the numbers
You don’t need us
Just do it
