Among other interests I pursue (or that pursue me) is music.
I’ve been a trombonist for decades now, playing in a number of different groups, from marching band, classic big band, rock/pop cover band, pit band, brass groups, symphonic wind ensemble, and orchestra.
I thought I’d share something from a recent performance of the Delmar Community Orchestra. The conductor, Vincent M. Bonafede is a prolific composer and arranger. He has gifted the orchestra and other local groups with his work for years. From the Youtube video description:
This is an excerpt from the March 10, 2025 winter concert of the Delmar Community Orchestra performing "Albany Suite". It was composed and conducted by Vincent M. Bonafede. Recorded live, it consists of 4 movements: Towers on the Plaza, Busy State Workers, Tulips in Washington Park, and Down State Street. It begins with composer Bonafede telling the stories behind each movement, inspired by the Empire State Plaza and other scenes around the State Capitol of Albany, NY. The entire suite, including the introduction, is just under 20 minutes long. Suitable for all ages.
The video was recorded using three iPhones. One iPhone was placed behind the orchestra, the other out in the audience, and a third on a stand behind the orchestra. The audio was exported from the video recordings from the first two cameras, and combined into two tracks for a stereo recording using the Sound Studio app. Some mixing and tweaking was done in the app as well to balance out the sound a bit more. The third video recording was used for the video alone. The video and soundtrack were edited in iMovie, with the results you see below.
Enjoy!
