Myanmar Rescue: USA AWOL [1]

This morning I tuned into BBC World News. With video of the disaster, a reporter (obviously American) led with pointing out that the USA was absent from any participation. Nothing!
America is always at the forefront in disaster rescue, around the world. Always contributes more in expertise, manpower and money.
The rest of the world is there in force but America’s absence leaves a terrible gap. Other nations may try to fill that gap but it is a big hole. It is a hole in our prestige that countries like China will fill.
I don’t know why this outrage hits me so hard. I guess it’s just the accumulation of unforgivable petty stupidity reaching the weight of a final straw.
I’m reminded of the great Paul Simon song, “An American Tune”
“From high up above my eyes can clearly see
the Statue of Liberty sailing away to sea”
God save us. We have lost our way in the fog and dark and are tottering toward an abys with some unknown bottom of destruction and despair.
“You can’t be forever blessed.”
God bless America. God help us in our hour of need.
