Unlike past Republican presidents who ended with recessions, Trump's second term is starting with one, entirely of his own making. Many swing voters prioritized the economy in the election and mistakenly believed Trump would deliver prosperity in a Faustian bargain. They're in for a sore surprise.

Voters’ opinions of the economy has declined 11 points . Now, 48% of Americans think the economy is getting worse, up from 37% at the start of Trump's second term.
