"His Name Is Shady Brad" [1]

One of our local radio stations preempts its regular country music lineup to broadcast six hours of polka music every Sunday morning. The “Polka Jamboree,” as it’s known, is hugely popular: draws enviable ratings, gets massive advertiser support, is broadcast live at diners and bars throughout the region. I’m a big fan of the show, and not ashamed to admit it.
This morning, two days out from election day here in Wisconsin, a commercial was run multiple times bashing conservative candidate for State Supreme Court Brad Schimel. Sung to the tune of the old Frankie Yankovic classic, “Who Stole the Kishka,” the lyrics went something like this:
Shady Brad is on his knees
Begging Elon “Please please please.”
Who knows what he’s begging for
While he’s on his knees?
[Chorus]
Who sold out the court?
Who sold out the court?
Who sold out the court?
His name is Shady Brad.
Shady Brad’s corrupt as hell.
He’s the judge who’s up for sale.
Who knows what he’s begging for
While he’s on his knees?
[Chorus]
I didn’t catch the name of the organization who paid for the ad – I was laughing too hard to concentrate – but it sounded like “Justice Watch.” Kudos to whomever put this together to target an audience that perhaps wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to this message. Maybe they succeeded in changing some minds and winning a few more votes for Judge Susan Crawford. I sure hope so!
If anyone’s not familiar with the Polka King’s account of sausage thievery, here’s his rendition of “Who Stole the Kishka” so you can sing along and help defeat Shady Brad.
