A Koan of Shadows [1]

Man stands in his own shadow, and wonders why it is dark. Only he can turn around. That’s if you’re fortunate. Right now we have a multitude that demands that it isn’t even dark. This is a version of the very worst delusion of all, that karma doesn’t apply to them, and that they can define the empathic and compassionate to be the most deluded and evil.
So what can the rest of us do about that? We can’t solve the problem for them. Nobody can force another to have empathy and compassion, although the maximally deluded suppose that they can force the rest of us not to have any. Nobody can force another to recognize reality. Thus the campaign against DEI that temporarily took down Jackie Robinson and many others (Black, Japanese, female) from the DoD Web site, and renamed the Enola Gay (carrier of the first atomic bomb used in a war) to be the Enola Homosexual.
Damn straight, Jackie Robinson was a DEI hire. That was the whole point.
Well, we can of course point and laugh, and cheer ourselves up a bit in these dire times. We can push back, and get much of the evil undone.
But that isn’t anywhere near enough. We have to honor the Buddha, spread the Dharma, and enlarge the Sangha.
So we have to begin with empathy, compassion, and good will for all, especially for those who define us as evil. We are not out to demonize them, but to do them every kind of good available.
This is the essence of our current politics. Democrats are trying to do every kind of good for everyone, including those who hate and despise and deny that. This is not by any means a new idea. Here are the Jewish and Christian versions.
Proverbs 25
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. 22 For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head,c and the LORD will reward you.
