US warns French companies they must comply with Trump's diversity ban
I just caught this on Reuters and it’s exactly as insane as it sounds. The trump administration has contacted French companies with US government contracts to tell them that they have to abide by the same DEI bans trump is throwing about domestically.
Reading the article, it sounds as though French companies may not even be able to do this without violating French law laws about data privacy.
The execution has been exactly as inept as you might imagine, with companies that have no presence in the US receiving the letter, while others that do have business interests have not (although the companies in question are defence and oil based, so possibly it’s just that certain sacred cows are safe).
I can’t begin to guess what the response to this will be in corporate Europe but it seems unlikely they’ll go along with it as blindly as many American companies have.
