FL-06 Update. Early Voting is Over. Now Election Day GOTV Begins! [1]

Early Voting ends today in FL-06. A brief update before i hit more doors for the final hour today.

Hope Springs from Field PAC [dated website] volunteers have been knocking on doors in FL-06 since the first weekend of February. FL-06 has a special congressional election on April 1st due to the resignation of incumbent GOP Rep Michael Waltz. We canvassed on Saturday and Sunday everyday this week, specifically GOTV canvassing, where we “dragged” voters from their doors to Early Voting centers. For most of us, it’s a very long day.

We are continuing our “prospecting” canvass tomorrow before returning to full-tilt GOTV on Monday. I probably don’t have to tell you that people are enthused. How enthused, you ask? At our staging areas, 375 volunteers came out; most of them were working on a hybrid canvass with GOTV but 46 of them were devoted to Early Voting GOTV.

Here in Volusia and Flagler counties, we’ve been taking reservations, so to speak, for people to drive Democrats (and Weil voters) to the Early Vote centers in their area. So when we had knocked on a voter’s door (people who had already told us they were voting for Josh Weil or Democrats with voter histories of Early Voting) the 5th time (generally by Wednesday) we left them with a note telling them we will continue trying to reach them during Early Voting hours but they could “call and make a reservation with us” if they needed a ride to go vote today. This was a suggestion from one of our volunteers (they are so smart!), and voters did call.

BTW, we didn’t count the number of people who volunteered to take voters to go vote today. I actually have no idea — and not even sure i recognized most of them. So let’s say 375 plus.

But one of our volunteers did tell me that he know understands why i say to work every election because you get better at it — and you never know when it will make the difference.

We have a lot of people hoping Tuesday will be that day! Won’t that be amazing!

Like Election Day, volunteers who do the dragging are expected to knock on a door three times (hence three rounds throughout the day), hoping to find the targeted voter at home. If we do (find the voter), then we ask them if they have voted yet (“early voting is happening right now!”) and, if not (as expected), “we can take you to vote right now!” This has actually been more successful in this district than usual, because there are a higher number of seniors, many of whom don’t mind being ferried to the polls!
