Trump attacks still another lawfirm: WilmerHale [1]

A fifth law firm has been targeted by Trump with Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale and Dorr LLP, shortened to WilmerHale.

The Executive Order reads exactly like the ones for Covington & Burling, Perkins Coie, Paul Weiss and Jenner & Block.

"...earmarking hundreds of millions of their clients' dollars for destructive causes..."

Somehow I think their clients would have some input on their money being spent. Actually, the money a law firm spends isn't their clients' money anymore, it's theirs. How stupid is Trump? Very.

"...yet another law firm that has abandoned the profession's highest ideals and abused its pro bono practice to engage in activities that undermine justice and the interests of the United States."

Just how do you abuse a pro bono practice? It's illegal to give your services away for free? Accusing a law firm of undermining justice is absolutely asinine. If they were doing any of that, the Bar Association would have a lot to say about it.

"For example, Wilmer Hale engages in obvious partisan representations to achieve political ends, supports efforts to discriminate on the basis of race..."

Then he rambles on a lot about them getting in the way of his deportations, and facilitating drug trafficking as a result. If that it actually happened the DOJ would have prosecuted them. They have committed the crime of following the ideals of DEI. This is the cudgel that the Trump Administration has used to accuse others of racism, when they are the most racist administration since the days of the origin of the Klu Klux Klan.

Then Trump gets out his enemies list. WilliamHale had the audacity to hire Robert Mueller, and his associates Aaron Zebly and James Quarles. Zebly was an FBI special agent before becoming a deputy special counsel to Robert Mueller. James Quarles was a deputy special counsel in the Watergate investigation. He did join the Mueller probe in 2017.

To recap history, the Mueller probe was about Russian influence and interference with the 2016 election in Donald Trump's favor. He, of course, is so angry about anything that proves that he would have lost the election without the Russians. He now has the power to go after those who prosecuted him, and he's doing it.

That group of lawyers, "wielded the power of the Federal Government to lead one of the most partisan investigations in American history."

He just loves hyperbole.

"... weaponization of government..." Not only that but they had the temerity to haul his staff into court because they had committed crimes.

"... interfering in their ability to fulfill the mandates of my first term agenda."

He's really stuck on the word "mandate." He thinks that justifies all the unconstitutional actions he's been committing. The only problem is he didn't have a mandate in his first term, any certainly not one in his second.

"This weaponization of the justice system must not be rewarded, let alone condoned."

The man who constantly claimed a weaponization of the justice system against him now wields it with aplomb against his perceived enemies. Hypocrisy at its worst.

Then comes the standard security clearance review, which really means revoking any security clearances. SCIFs shutdown and removed.

All contractors must report any involvement with WilmerHale. Any contracts with WilmerHale itself are canceled.

Racial discrimination. References back to executive order against Perkins Coie for the crime of having used the principle of DEI in their practice.

In the name of national security, all WilmerHale personnel are banned from entering federal buildings.

If you've every been a WilmerHale employee, you're never going to be hired by the Federal government.

This law firm is being attacked by Trump for one reason and one reason only. The Mueller investigation. WilmerHale had the audacity to hire Mueller himself, along with Zebly and Quarles. That means he can punish the law firm. Trump says it plainly. All the rest is piled on just as with the other four law firms.

Covington & Burling was singled out for representing Jack Smith. They say they were proud to do it, and haven't yet pursued any litigation against the Trump administration.

Perkins Coie fought back in court and got a temporary restraining order on the points they asked for. Williams & Connolly proudly represented them in court by sending 14 lawyers to defend Perkins Coie. Paul, Weiss capitulated totally in abject humiliation, even promising $40 million of pro bono work Trump would direct.

Jenner & Block has filed a lawsuit for a temporary restraining order to block the executive order and even created a website called Jenner Stands Firm to highlight their case and keep a progress report.

But, now there are reports that law firms are skittish about defending those who Trump attacks.

These sanctions against law firms is part of the pattern of Trump pursuing enemies. He can't get rid of the judges, yet. So, he goes after law firms who have any relation to his prosecutions for wrong doing. It's to keep them from representing individuals, law firms, agencies and the public in the 149 cases, and counting, against his administration.

It's time to start looking at the law firms representing the plaintiffs in those 149 cases against Trump. If he bars them from federal buildings, how can they pursue the cases in federal courts?

Pro bono work in cases against the administration has become one of Trump's top reasons to attack a law firm. He doesn't need to find a relation or employment of Marc Elias, Andrew Weissman, Robert Mueller, Jack Smith or the many others who have crossed him. Pro bono work is suddenly against national security.

WilmerHale has hit only yesterday, but they filed today to block the executive order. They said they were quite proud of having Robert Mueller on their team and defended his character.

WilmerHale is just the latest. There will be more. I hope they follow Perkins Coie and fight back. With these firms each having over 1,000 lawyers each, that's a lot of lawyers to take out of the fight against Trump.

Don't bow down to the bully. If they do, Trump will only be encouraged to do more, and more and more.

The only way to fight Trump is in the courts. Congress is worthless. The law is on our side as long as it can be enforced. That's the next battle.
