Hi beer fans, happy Friday!

Beer news: NorCal OG Anderson Valley Brewing has been sold — to a wine guy who says beer makes him sick. This does not appear to be an ideal match, but in an era where the giants aren’t acquiring craft brewers any more, sellers take what they can get.

Anderson Valley Brewing Co., one of California’s oldest craft breweries has sold, again — and surprisingly, the new owner doesn’t drink beer. “I’ve never been able to,” said new owner Jason McConnell. “I feel sick right away.” The former owner of a popular winery, even McConnell is surprised by his acquisition of the Boonville (Mendocino County) brewery, best known for its Boont Amber Ale. “In a million years, I would have never thought I’d be buying a brewery,” he said, but McConnell was sold on its potential — in part as an events venue... While this is the third time Anderson Valley Brewing has changed hands in the past 15 years, it has evaded the threat of corporate ownership each time. Under McConnell, it will remain independently owned, which means it still fits the Brewers Association definition of a craft brewery. McConnell purchased the brewery for an undisclosed sum from the family of Kevin McGee, a Healdsburg lawyer, wine industry executive and brewer. His father acquired the brand in December 2019, just a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic. McGee said his family had “the intention to have it as a long-term family business, but the pandemic created some challenges.” He’s confident in McConnell’s vision for the brewery, despite his lack of beer industry experience.

Good luck to the new owner. AVB has always been a place with a distinctive character, it would be a shame to lose them.

Every week I ask “is anyone brewing?”, and for the first time in years the answer is “I am!”

I just spent $175 on supplies and gear so I’d better follow through on this! The above picture shows most of the ingredients for 5 gallons of pale ale (I forgot one package of hops).

I’m drinking the Juicy Little Thing pictured at top. Has anyone else tried the new SN beer, Rad Little Thing? I was disappointed, and I can’t remember saying that about anything from SN.

What are you drinking?
