The Trump administration was stopped today from shuttering Voice of America. Judge James Paul Oetken said that Trump's move was "a classic case of arbitrary and capricious decision making." He ordered the Agency for Global Media not to fire any of the 1,200 employees.
The decision also applied to all the other elements of AGM with Radio Free Liberty, Radio Free Europe, Radio Free Asia and Radio Free Afghanistan. Funding has been restored.
The judge criticized Trump for "taking a sledgehammer to an agency that has been statutorily authorized and funded by Congress." Kari Lake also did not emerge unscathed.
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson blocked Trump and DOGE's attempt to neuter the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Employees are all to go back to work and continue doing work, and reinstate any fired employees. She also ordered the CFPB not to destroy any records. She started her decision by quoting Elon musk's X post that said "CFPB RIP." And then followed with 112 pages.
The law firm of Jenner & Block was granted a temporary restraining order against Trump's executive order trying to punish the firm for having had contact with Trump foes. Won the TRO on the basis of the First, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments. Judge Bates found the action by Trump "disturbing" and "troubling.""
Then, WilmerHale, another law firm under attack by a trump executive order, also won a temporary restraining order. Judge Richard Leon issued a similar temporary restraining order against the Trump administration, blocking the effect of the executive order.
Both judges left in place the suspension of security clearances.
U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy in Boston ordered the government to give migrants a chance to contest removal to a third country where their lives or freedom would be in jeopardy. This is limited to migrants who are on a final order of removal after processing by an immigration court.
Finally, Elon Musk is under investigation for his voter lottery contest in Wisconsin that promised voters for the Republican Supreme Court runner a $1 million check to two of them. Musk later retracted his X post about it and changed it to those signing a petition against activist judges. Some experts say that Musk violated Wisconsin voter bribery laws. Hopefully charges will be filed.
