The sea lamprey is a particularly noxious invasive species in the Great Lakes. Blood sucking parasites targeting lake trout and other species. One lamprey will devour 40 pounds of fish in its lifetime. Watch The Fish Thief to learn about these aquatic nightmares. Elon Musk (lower left) cut funding for the 40 or so employees that disperse lampreycide, a chemical that targets only Sea Lampreys. Great Lakes residents spoke up and funding has been restored! Michigan NPR (another program targeted by the Musk Administration has the story here. Since lampreycide needs to be applied in April and the trained workers who were fired may have already found other work, the success of this year’s application may be impacted. Some are saying that Musk views Sea Lamprey as a “role model beneath the waves.”
