The worst thing about SignalGate is that it was deliberate. They know Signal is highly encrypted and pretty safe—from anyone not on the list. They know it is illegal to use a system other than approved government systems. They know they are required to keep records of all official conversations. They know Signal will erase at an appointed time. They know they are saying things they do not want anyone else (including the boss) to know they are saying—they are actively trying to hide their conversations. They know that many things they are doing are illegal and unconstitutional, and they know they are lying when they deny it. They know this was a mistake and they will learn from it—to double check the invitation list. It is almost certain that many others in the government are doing the same thing, and we will never know what they were thinking. That’s the point—their conversations are top secret, not from our enemies but from us.
