Interesting News From Ruby Red Florida District 6, Is It In Play? [1]

Some interesting things going on just North of where I live in the special election for Florida's 6th Congressional election. The special election was forced when incumbent Michael Waltz was tapped as a special advisor to Trump. As an interesting side note, Waltz is the idiot who added Atlantic journalist Jeffrey Goldberg to the Signal text group that shared highly classified war plans.

The election (this coming Tuesday) pits Republican Randy Fine against Democrat Josh Weil. It is considered a safe Republican district. Waltz won it in 2024 by 33 points. Republican, Fine, seeing that, apparently decided he didn't need to campaign or even try to raise funds. Weil has aggressively campaigned and fund raised. Even with only minimal assistance from the national party Weil has out raised and out spent Fine by nearly 10 to 1.

This week the Republican Party woke up from its stupor in this regards and told Fine to get his "stuff" together. That admonition also came from The White House, which is now scrambling to get the word out to District 6 Republicans that he needs Fine in the House.

Perhaps driving the Republican panic is an independent poll you can view HERE:

In that poll, amongst those who plan to vote, the Republican Fine does lead Weil by 48.3% to 44.2%, but that lead is within the poll's margin of error, and it is way below the 30+ point Republican lead in the last election.

More concerning for Republicans is that among the 38% of respondents who say they have already voted Weil leads by 51% to 43%.

Trust me, I'm not predicting that Weil will win. However, this does look like it is going to be much closer than it should be.

One other result from the poll. This district is so ruby red that Trump won it by 30 points in 2024. This poll asked the question: "Do you approve the job Donald Trump is doing as President?" A majority said they did, but not by much.

Yes: 50.5%

No: 45.3%

In short, in a district Trump won by 30, by only a thin margin of 5% do voters approve of what Trump is doing now.
