Date: 2025-03-26

Let’s remember and celebrate the life of Leonard Nimoy (Mar 26, 1931 – Feb 27, 2015) on his 94th Birthday.

Leonard Simon Nimoy was born on March 26, 1931, in an Irish section of the West End of Boston, Massachusetts, to Jewish immigrants from Iziaslav, Ukraine.

Best known for his iconic role as Spock in the Star Trek franchise, which he played for almost 50 years, Nimoy was also a director, producer, photographer, author, singer and songwriter.

On February 27, 2015, Nimoy died at the age of 83 of complications from COPD (a condition he attributed to a smoking addiction he had quit about 30 years earlier).

Here is a familiar pic of Leonard Nimoy, in bell-bottoms, 49 years ago, with his friends and colleagues, when the creator and cast members of Star Trek attended the September 1976 rollout of space shuttle Enterprise.

That was quite a different era, with top notch experts and scientists leading the U.S. Space program, embodying the spirit of Star Trek, boldly going when no human had gone before. Today, the agency has been invaded by Klingons, who are hell bent on destroying the agency and exterminating the practice of science from our society.

Leonard Nimoy Day

Did you know that in 2021, the city of Boston, where Nimoy has his roots, declared March 26 as “Leonard Nimoy Day?” trekmovie.com/...

Writing

Leonard Nimoy authored several books, including I Am Not Spock (1975) and I Am Spock (1995).

In the 2nd book, he wrote that "he finally realized his years of portraying the Spock character had led to a much greater identification between the fictional character and himself. Nimoy maintained that in some meaningful sense he had merged with Spock while distancing between fact and fiction." en.wikipedia.org/...

Has anyone here read the books?

Stage

In 1981, Nimoy starred in Vincent, a one-man show which he wrote, directed and produced. It was based on the life of artist Vincent van Gogh, in which Nimoy played Van Gogh's brother Theo. store.bizbooks.net/...

Memorable Quotes

Here are a few memorable quotes, as spoken by Spock in Star Trek, which are very relevant in these trying times of “illogic and foolish emotions” in MAGA world -

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.

In critical moments, men sometimes see exactly what they wish to see.

Without followers, evil cannot spread.

When there is no emotion, there is no motive for violence.

"May I say that I have not thoroughly enjoyed serving with humans? I find their illogic and foolish emotions a constant irritant." – Mr. Spock, Star Trek: The Original Series, ‘Day of the Dove’

Live long and prosper.

Epilogue

In these trying times with the MAGA invasion of out nation, it’s good to take some time off from the news and contemplate on the good that resides in all of us, draw inspiration from others and determine how we can channel our energy and our logic to fight the Nazis and to preserve our Democracy and our values.
