No Nobel Peace Prize [1]

The sudden halt to HIV programs, following Trump’s destruction of USAID, leaves 20 million people without the medicines they need to survive. 136,000 children will be infected with the HIV virus in the first three months.
This is the message of an opinion piece in my morning newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, in Stockholm, Sweden. Two epidemiology professors, Anna Mia Ekström and Jonas F. Ludvigsson, signed this frightening news – complete with facts and statistics.
To me, this seems close to the worst disasters the world has seen. Worse than the Covid-19 pandemic, worse than the Holocaust. And completely avoidable – just the result of a stupid bunch of people in the White House.
There are no plans to compensate for the loss of USAID (=40% of all international aid). If the countries with a lot of HIV could start their own programs, it would take a lot of time. And money.
The professors remind us that a virus knows no borders. Those who saved the USAID billion will soon panic.
Donald Trump dreams of a Nobel Peace Prize. What he gets is the company of Pol Pot, Stalin, Mao and Hitler.
