So now that I have a 3d printer I’m able to make some concrete versions of various ideas I have had for games. One of them is a tile game I call “Pollinators”. It is inspired by a similar game mechanic I remember seeing on YouTube a few years ago.
A game of “Pollinators”
“Pollinators” is a two-person tile-placement game. You play pollinating insects (Bees and Butterflies) who are competing with each other for Flowers.
To play “Pollinators” you will need:
4 Flowers. Mine are 3d-printed tiles, but you can make your own counters from paperboard or cardboard, or use coins, bingo chips, or poker chips.
8 Bees and 8 Butterflies.
Game tiles: 8 Butterflies, 4 Flowers, and 8 Bees
The game begins by placing the four Flower tiles on the table in a row, either horizontally or vertically.
Placing the Flowers to start the game
Player One starts by placing one of his tiles. This is done by placing a Bee or Butterfly tile next to one of the Flowers and sliding it one space vertically or horizontally until the Player’s tile has replaced the Flower and the Flower has been relocated next to it.
Sliding a Player’s tile into place
Players then alternate placing their tiles one at a time.
Player tiles may only be placed on an empty space adjacent to a tile, either above it, below it, or to either side (but not diagonally). Player tiles may be placed next to a Flower or any other Player tiles, including their own.
If you place your tile at the end of a row of two or more tiles, vertically or horizontally, that entire row is slid one space.
Play continues until the Players run out of tiles.
All 16 Player tiles placed
At the end of the game, any Player tile that is not adjacent to a Flower (either vertically or horizontally but not diagonally) is dead and is removed from the board.
Removing the dead pollinators
The Player with the most remaining tiles, wins.
