Donald scores 4 Pinocchios on Birthright Citizenship [1]

If you skip over the birthright citizenship question, you can go right to "due process" for depriving one of "life, liberty or property," in relation to what the Trump administration is doing with the flights to El Salvador, jailed dissidents and weaponized law enforcement. This part doesn't say "citizen," it says, "any person."
Birthright citizenship is a guarantee that Donald Trump conveniently says doesn't apply to the modern era, but the Second Amendment is sacrosanct. Pick and choose which parts of the Constitution you like, and ignore the rest.
Donald tries to do that in his latest hobby of deportations of anyone not sufficiently American, or white.
"The 14th Amendment Right of American Citizenship," was just a cruel joke played on him 150 years ago.
"... never had anything to do with modern day "gate crashers."
Modern day takes precedent over original text or 150 years of interpretation. Tell that to the Supreme Court over the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
Gate crashers, again in quotes, to deligitimize them as human beings. They're jumping the line to get to the Disneyworld ride or the movie premiere first.
Illegal immigration is illegal immigration. No one disputes that. Born here, or having residency and taken the test to become an American citizen are the qualifiers.
"... it had everything to do with giving Citizenship to former slaves."
It did. But the "due process" about "property" was that slave owners had to be paid for emancipating their slaves. The fact that eliminating slavery was part of the amendment doesn't delegitimize it for other people.
"Our Founding Fathers would be 'spinning in their graves' at the idea that our Country can be taken away from us."
Most of our founding fathers were slave owners. You can't whitewash that part of history. You just want it to be white history.
"... our Country." Who is the "our," Donald? Does it only belong to your co-opting patriotism MAGA crowd? Or do you really mean all walks of life in America? What about trans citizens? You're trying to outlaw their existence. It's their country, too.
Here's the four Pinocchios:
"No Nation in the World has anything like this."
According to the CIA Factbook, there are 33 countries that have birthright citizenship. Here's a map of them.
Right next door are Canada and Mexico. They qualify as nations, although you have this weird idea about Canada.
"Our lawyers and Judges have to be tough, and protect America!"
Of course, being tough means following Trump's edicts. Funny that he capitalized judges, but not lawyers.
Both the lawyers and the judges have to follow the law. Lawyers use it for offense or defense. The judges have to interpret it. Toughness doesn't have anything to do with it.
According to the Just Security Litigation Tracker, there are 10 cases against the Trump administration over the attacks on birthright citizenship. There will be more.
No matter how many times Trump says it, the 14th Amendment is clear as a bell. The Supreme Court will not bow down to Trump on this issue. If they did, we might as well throw out the whole Constitution and just wing it from now on.
Because people really do care about people coming into America not using the few legal channels available, Trump is playing us one against the other. There is no middle ground.
I predicted a year ago that legal U.S. citizens would get swept up in the mass deportations because it would be arrest first, ask questions later. I'm sorry it's come to pass.
We've even got people being deported for using their First Amendment rights, but that apparently doesn't apply if you're here on a visa. Especially a student visa.
Congress had a chance last year with an immigration bill that was so tough that even the Republicans wanted it. What happened? Trump told the Republicans to kill it because it would have made Biden look tough. He couldn't have that. Now that he's president, where is that bill now? Crickets. Trump is having too much fun with executive orders instead of Congress passing legislation.
Right now, we've got to concentrate on court actions, just to stop Trump from following through on his promises.
His lies don't help, either.
