The Letter I Sent To DSCC When They Asked For Another Political Donation From Me/My Deceased Mom. [1]

I received another letter from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committe (DSCC) this week asking for a political donation from my deceased Mom to win back the Senate in 2026. As many kind readers know, my Mom just passed away on Weds. I didn’t fly into a rage because I’d be primed the previous weeks to expect this. You see I had already received at least two of the same damn letters addressed to me, and the curse words flowed out of my mouth like the Ohio River after a flash flood then. I was able to compose myself, and I noticed the return stamped envelope they sent with “URGENT DONATION” written on it. And a thought came to my mind from a trick my Mom had done many years ago.

Before the dementia, Mom had sent back a previous political “survey” (donation really) checked off without any money. It was her own little way to protest to the Democrats to actually DELIVER on what they promised before they got another penny out of her. Because also written on those donation letters is a plea to please stamp the return envelope to SAVE ON THE MONEY groups like the DSCC have to spend on those letters/envelopes. You know every little bit helps!

But I have one upped my Mom. I also sent along a letter stating why I was not giving a penny to the DSCC. And this is what I sent:

To Whom It May Concern: I’m returning this “survey,” which is nothing more than a solicitation for a donation to the DSCC, without any money to signal my absolute displeasure with the abysmal record of Senate Democrats to oppose President Elon Musk and his Co-president Donald Trump. I am not an ATM. All elected Democrats care about is money, and those same Democrats want to be rewarded for their inaction. I don’t reward fecklessness and cowardice. The last straw for me was Senator Chuck Schumer’s capitulation to Trump/Musk and passage of the “clean” continuing resolution (CR). Schumer is no leader. He knew that the Trump/Musk CR was a distinct possibility, but Schumer prepared no media or political strategy to combat the budgetary cuts and continued rampage of Musk and his cyber punks at DOGE. Schumer assumed that enough MAGA extremists in the House would block the CR along with all the House Democrats, and this would force Speaker Johnson and Trump to try and negotiate a more bipartisan CR. Instead, Trump was able to threaten cowardly House Republicans with primary challenges and he promised the MAGA extremists more acts of impoundment to garner all the votes needed to pass this rotten CR. This means there will be even deeper budgetary cuts and more purges of government employees by Musk. This is not some game to me. It’s literally life and death for me. I’m one of those federal government employees that Trump wants to purge (I work for the U.S. Census Bureau). I have barely gotten any work in the last two years because House Republicans cannot get a budget together, so I have only worked 1-2 days a week for the past two years. I’m 61 years old, and I got by with the help of my 96 year old Mom’s Social Security checks and returns on some of her investments in retirement accounts and annuities. Sadly, my Mom passed away this week, so the Social Security checks will now end. Now, I am forced to find other work at my age, when I thought maybe the work would pick up at the Census Bureau when Harris won. The security I have had is now gone, so Schumer’s vote for the CR did NOTHING for me. And what are Senate Democrats going to do to save those other federal employees who will be purged? NOTHING! Any leverage Democrats had for trying to stop Musk and Trump is now gone with passage of the CR. In seven months time, there will not be a recognizable federal government when DOGE is done. And don’t try to tell me that Democrats will take the debt ceiling increase hostage for negotiations. Schumer and the other corporate Democrats would never mess around with the full faith and credit of the United States. Only Republicans do that shit. Until I see that Senate Democrats are willing to lay it all on the line to protect our democracy and American lives, no Senate Democrat will receive another penny from me. Besides, I can’t afford it now even if I felt like it. And with Schumer as the minority leader, I really am checked out on donations. I realize that these words will never be seen by any Senate Democrat. The person who does read this is some overworked/underpaid aide or worker who has to deal with the frustration and extreme anger of the Democratic base. I know how this works. The grunt in the trenches reading this may tell a supervisor about this, and it’s as far as it goes up the chain of command. It’s why there is such anger focused on the U.S. Senate. It’s a damn country club, and the members do not want to be bothered by us plebeians. Well, I spent hundreds of dollars last year to save Senate Democrats in 2024, and you will have to do without my contributions for now. Act like a real opposition political party, and I will change my mind. Sincerely,

I also decided to tell them on the survey that my Mom had passed away and to stop sending anymore letters to this address. And I would have scanned the return donation part for all to see, but my Mom’s name was on it. Therefore, I’m not plastering that on the internet.

HOWEVER, to add insult to injuries, do you want to know whose smiling face is adjacent to the return donation slip? Yes, IT’S A PHOTO OF A SMILING SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER! Right next to the money!

A wrote on the donation slip, “THIS MAN IS MORE BRAIN DEAD THAN MY DECEASED MOM.” with an arrow pointing to his smiling photo.

Many Schumer defenders will say this was a childish act on my part that will accomplish nothing. Yes, it will achieve nothing, at least for now. But it is another droplet of water from an angry progressive voter. And maybe with enough droplets, a political wave of water may form that sweeps away the likes of the Chuck Schumer’s in our party who refuse to see the wildfires that arsonists like Musk/Trump/McConnell have set to destroy our democracy.

One can hope.
