What is it, exactly, that you voted for? [1]

[This is one of my ‘letters to the editor’ , published in my local paper]
The 20th century is replete with dictatorial leaders who seized control of their societies and transformed them into totalitarian nightmares: Mugabe, Idi Amin, Stalin, Pinochet, Mao, Mussolini, Hitler, Ceausescu, the Duvaliers, Mobutu, Pol Pot, and many others.
One thing they all had in common... once in power, they immediately began dismantling societal norms and safeguards, consolidating all control, making themselves untouchable.
Right now, in this country, with the complete acquiescence of the entire Republican Party, Trump is doing just that. He is systematically undermining governing functions, eliminating the guide-rails, seizing control of every aspect of law enforcement, including (ultimately) the judicial system.
He knows he cannot be impeached, arrested, or prosecuted, no matter what he does.
If some rogue official or department were brave enough to try to stop him, he could have them arrested, disappeared, or even shot by Seal Team 6, in broad daylight, on 5th Ave. And according to his cohorts on the Supreme Court, he would be within his rights to do so... untouchable.
That's what this past election was all about.
So here's the question for all you patriotic Republican voters.
What would you call a system of governance like that? What kind of society would this be?
It most certainly is not the type of 'we the people' Democratic Republic envisioned by our constitutional founders, as all reasonable, and reasonably informed, citizens should be able to agree.
So what is it, exactly, that you voted for?
If you're finding it difficult to come up with an answer, you might want to look into some of the names and countries above for guidance. Could be a real eye opener.
I look forward to, and am honestly intrigued by, your response.
Even if it's silence.
