WE MUST FIGHT NOW! He Will Never Be Weaker. [1]

So, in a recent Diary, I posted John Stewart’s take down, of Chuck Schumer’s failure to act. One of the reasons Schumer gave for not fighting now (I believe it was on Chris Hayes) Was that Trump’s approval rating (now at 48%) is still too high take on for a Risky shutdown fight.
Schumer argued that we should keep working on lowering Trump’s approval rating, and that once it is under 40% Republicans will magically start working with us. A rational that made me reconsider corporal punishment, because clearly that man needed slapped more as a child. It also made consider banging my head on concrete until merciful oblivion overtook me. What the fuck!
Since I don’t condone violence, I will just say—that take—is absurd!
History has shown us time and time again that when authoritarian-minded leaders take power, they just keep taking more power. They consolidate control, weaken democratic institutions, and make it harder to challenge their rule. The most effective resistance happens early—before an erosion of rights and norms becomes too deeply entrenched
Here is what time in power without opposition let’s a wannabe dictator to do.
Undermine the media by discrediting journalists or limiting press freedom.
Attack the judiciary, appointing more loyalists to key positions.
ignore the judiciary, getting us slowly acclimated to the new world when the small cases become big.
using nationalism or fear-mongering to justify curtailing more freedoms. This is will be the attack on Tesla’s and what not.
Weaken checks and balances, making opposition harder.
By the time non political junkies realize what’s happening, the damage is often done. Fighting back later—when laws have changed, institutions are compromised, and dissent is punished—becomes much more difficult. THE PRICE GOES UP!
As of now we can still fight. Democratic norms are still somewhat intact. The courts, the press, and free elections still function, Public opinion can still be mobilized, if we start fighting.
Once a leader consolidates power, dissent becomes that much riskier. Right now, the opposition hasn’t been crushed yet; activists, journalists, and political opponents still have the space to organize and speak out.
Most importantly, reversing damage is far easier than undoing deeply entrenched authoritarian policies. Once rights are stripped away—whether it's voting access, free speech, or judicial independence—restoring them can take generations.
So organize, protest, support independent journalists. Call you Senator and Congressmen. Speak out and urge everyone to not cooperate on any level with this shit.
PLEASE! I don’t want my kids growing up in an Orwellian shithole like Russia. I want them to grow up in America.
