So, I haven’t watched Chris Hayes (or any MSM except Rachel Maddow since 11/24). And tonight is the night I chose to try watching Chris Hayes…and he has Chuck Schumer as his first guest?! WTH? Mr. Capitulator? I’m sorry, this man is mouthing excuses for his utter cowardice and misreading of the moment. Thank you, Chris Hayes for your on-point questions: www.msnbc.com/...
In contrast to Chris’ platforming of this guy, listen to this episode of Harry Litman’s Talking Feds, where Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo lays out the case for how bad Schumer’s decision actually was: www.talkingfeds.com. His argument is that a shut-down vote would not only have shown that the Democrats are willing to fight, but that the shut-down of all government services would have accelerated the push-back from the public against what Trump/Musk is doing. Their trashing of government services is not popular, and it won’t wear well over time, in other words. And if we fight — we win- at least with the outraged public. I think he’s right, but Schumer is still playing by the old rules — which are defunct in our current authoritarian reality.
I know there are differences of opinion here (and everywhere) about how Democrats should respond to this authoritarian/dictator wannabe and his rich minion, Musk, but respectfully, Schumer’s choice over the CR was the wrong one. I’m an oldster, but I say: step aside, Chuck, and let someone who understands the moment step up.
