Participants were left wanting more after a webinar on what to do about the New Apostolic Reformation (staged in resonse to a major article in The Atlantic by Stephanie McCrummen). So we are hosting a Part II by popular demand!

This time, Political Research Associates (PRA) is pleased to feature award winning author Katherine Stewart, whose important new book Money, Lies and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy has a concluding chapter, "The Way Forward?" -- about what to do.

This is no time to retreat under the covers. Now is the time for moral courage. There are more Americans who would prefer to live in a democracy than a kleptocratic, Christian nationalist autocracy. We need to come together in broad coalitions and stay focused on organizing—from developing pro-democracy strategies and infrastructure to taking local action to improving voter turnout operations—now and in the long term. When they lost in 2020, the MAGA movement didn’t roll over. They simply resolved to organize better and fight harder. Above all, they found new populations to evangelize with untruths. We wouldn’t wish to emulate their most craven tactics, of course, but we can learn something from their strategic resolve. — Katherine Stewart

What to do about the NAR Part II will be held on Zoom on March 28 at 2:30 - 4pm EDT. Please register here in advance. A recording of the webinar will be sent to everyone who registers, whether or not they are ultimately able to attend.

The webinar will be led by Naomi Washington-Leapheart, Director of Strategic Partnerships at PRA. We have asked several people to answer the question: What should we be doing in response to the NAR?

Scot Nakagawa, the Executive Director of the 22nd Century Initiative, is the author of two important recent essays: The Rise of the New Apostolic Reformation: A Transformative Force in American and Christianity and Follow-up: Fighting the Authoritarian Threat of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR).

Matthew D. Taylor is the Senior Protestant Scholar at the Institute for Islamic, Christian, and Jewish Studies and is the author of The Violent Take It by Force: The Christian Movement that is Threatening Our Democracy.

John C. Dorhauer is the former General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ, and former Chair of the National Council of Churches. He is also the coauthor of Steeplejacking: How the Christian Right is Hijacking Mainstream Religion.

Frederick Clarkson is a Senior Research Analyst at Political Research Associates. He is the author of hundreds of articles over four decades and is the author of Eternal Hostility: The Struggle Between Theocracy and Democracy.

We hope to see you there!
