This is why we couldn’t get rid of the Filibuster? [1]

I thought the 60 votes for cloture / filibuster rule was something we couldn’t get rid of for Biden and Build Back Better…because then we couldn’t use it against a Republican President with a Republican majority in the Senate when we might need it.
Last week we had a moment to stand up to the Senate Republican majority who are going along with dictatorial moves. It was a time to use the media and make a stand and not vote for cloture. It wasn’t a question of governing strategy; it was a question of messaging and leadership. Do we really believe that Trump and Must would do anything differently if Congress failed to pass a continuing resolution on spending? They are not abiding by Congressionally passed laws and funding requirements. They are not following court orders.* They would be doing what they are doing now…spending what they want to spend and prohibiting spending where they want to withhold funds and close down government functions.
Meet the moment. Europeans already think the US is a dictatorship under Trump.** They might know something about what to look for.
Wake up. We want Democrats to lead. We want Democrats who show some fight. The House Democratic caucus did.
We need Democratic leadership to meet the moment.
*The courts are ruling against Trump but his flunkies often only pretend to follow the rulings. They delay or ignore the rulings. One hideous example: Saturday a federal court in DC ruled against using the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelans. Planes carrying more than 200 Venezuelans deported by the US landed in El Salvador after the judge specifically ordered the Trump administration not to do so.
**More than half of the French, German and British respondents considered Donald Trump a “dictator”, according to a poll published on March 8 by the think tank Destin Commun.
