St. Patrick

From Digby I got a list of 15 Films for Saint Patrick’s Day: Details are HERE

The Commitments

Darby O’Gill and the Little People

A Date for Mad Mary

Garage

Hear My Song

I Am Belfast

In Bruges

Into the West

Miller’s Crossing,

My Left Foot

Odd Man Out

Older Than Ireland

The Secret of Roan Inish

Song of the Sea

The Quiet Man I saw this movie as a 14 year old kid while crossing the Atlantic on the Noordam II, which was built in 1938. It was a very impressive movie for a kid. Maureen O'Hara said it was her favorite role.

We scored three corned beef briskets at a good price, two for the freezer and one cooking as I write this, The meal is always great, but the sandwiches the next day are even better. I once described this tradition to a fellow employee at the post office who was Korean. I gave him the recipe and he and his family just loved it.

Irish Soda bread is easy to make; lots of recipes on line. But if you don’t have buttermilk (and who keeps that around?) you can substitute.

2 tablespoons white vinegar

2 cups milk approximately

4 1/4 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon sugar

Are y’all having a special St. Patrick’s Day meal? If not, do you have another tradition? I saw recipes for colcannon today. Looks like fun for our next Irish/ New England Boiled dinner project.
