I Too Agree With Schumer [1]

Schumer says that Trump‘s and Musk’s actions during a shutdown would be a drastic slash and burn that would be unchallengeable in the courts. The counter argument is that the Trump administration is not doing what the courts tell them to do anyway.
Here’s the thing: court rulings matter. They matter in the next election. They matter in the news cycle. They are tangible, dispositive conclusions by authority figures that you can point to and say, “There, there, that’s what I’m fighting for!”
A court ruling’s succinct summations allow you to educate people whose attention spans cannot endure a full explanation.
And every now and then, at random, the Trump administration does follow a court ruling. When they only follow it half-assed, the plaintiffs go back to court and win again. It’s a game, but it’s the only game in town right now. If we survive, there’ll be another game called an election in 2026.
Schumer has been playing, fighting, and winning for a long time now. He knows what he’s doing. I would not follow him blindly, but I would not rashly call him a coward either.
