Canadian consumers, provincial governments hit back at Trump economy [1]

Tariffs are strictly a federal matter in Canada. However today’s Globe and Mail (the NY Times of Canada) has two stories about how Canadian consumers and the British Columbia provincial government are engaged in non-tariff retaliation against Trump by inflicting pain on the Trump economy:
BC Hydro — the government-owned electricity monopoly in British Columbia — offers generous rebates to consumers buying electric vehicles or investing in home charging stations. Today they removed Tesla cars and Tesla chargers from the program today, basically rendering Tesla uncompetitive in the provincial market — other brands remain eligible for the rebates.
Empire Foods — which owns several of Canada’s major supermarket chains (including Canada Safeway) reports a noticeable and sudden decline in the purchase of American products in its stores across the country — both “made in USA” and — to a lesser extent — iconic American brands that are made in Canada
The store is now making a point of labelling Canadian products with a Canadian flag on the store shelf, and is telling its wholesale suppliers that it will be moving away from purchasing American products “because they don’t sell” in today’s political climate.

Empire Company Ltd.“We have heard loud and clear from our customers that they want Canadian products,” Empire CEO Michael Medline said Thursday during a conference call to discuss the company’s third-quarter results.”
Canadians have stopped saying “Sorry,” MAGA America!
Historical note:
There were five beaches assaulted in Normandy on D-Day. The Canadians at Juno Beach met more of the first-day goals set by joint Allied Command than either the Americans or British at the other four beaches. Elbows up!
