COWARDS [1]

The amount of anger I feel tonight came as a surprise to me. In my heart, I knew this party would cave to fascism. I knew they would pick the comfort of imagining that politics could be normal over the fierce obligation to oppose Trump and his fascist, genocidal takeover of government with every possible tool at their disposal. I knew it in my heart and they still managed to break that heart.



I don’t know if anyone with any influence anywhere reads the member diaries here. But if they do, I hope that if they read this one, they try to take to heart just how afraid and how furious we all are. I am an educator. I work for a liberal arts community college, serving underrepresented communities — veterans, adult learners, returning students, early college high school students, and so many people who are the first people in their families to go to college. Right now, Elon Musk — a man who literally gave two Nazi salutes at the inauguration, is dismantling the Department of Education. My wife and I built our lives around serving our communities as educators, and very soon those lives will be thrown out into the cold, or we’ll be forced to resign instead of teaching a “patriotic” curriculum that lies to students about history and treats marginalized students with cruelty and dehumanization. Our home, our livelihood, or very calling is now operating on borrowed time.



We are not alone. Countless thousands of people who devoted their lives to public service are now going to be run out on a rail. They will lose their income, their health care, their homes. All to serve the madman Chuck Schumer just voted to further empower.



You cannot spend a campaign rightly telling all of us that the Trump regime is a fascist movement, and then when that regime comes to power, pretend like anything is normal. All of us are out here living in an existential hell, and the millionaire Democrats on Capitol Hill, with their millionaire lobbyist friends and the many connections that power had given them just don’t have to give a damn about our plight.



Schumer and the other seven Democrats who are dropping to their knees before these fascists will not have to suffer the consequences of their cowardice. They will sadly watch as things get worse and worse. They’ll beg us all for money, harass us on our cell phones, try to scare us into donating so they can hold on to the power they refuse to wield so they can leverage that power into a level of wealth and influence none of us will ever enjoy.



And what can we do? Organize? Behind what political party? The megadonors and the 1% who fund the Democratic party don’t want our lives to get better. They don’t want this country to thrive. And our voices don’t matter. Our lives don’t matter. Our liberty doesn’t matter. Schumer just helped the fascists back us all into a corner, and no one is in that corner with us. Just a bunch of washed-up fucking politicians who will not suffer the way we all are going to suffer in the coming weeks.



When I lose my home, because the Department of Education is dismantled and Texas decides to run all of us non-Nazi educators out on a rail, it will be Chuck Schumer, and Joe Biden, and Merrick Garland, and Barack Obama, and all the other centrists in a long line of well-heeled, well-manicured, wealthy centrists who I will blame. Democratic Leadership doesn’t care about you. They care about their own fortunes, their own pockets, their own connections, their own wealthy networks and privilege. All of these traitors in the Senate can go to hell.



Sanders is filling up town halls in red districts with a clear message of economic equality and liberty. Schumer’s in DC selling all of us down the river forever. I don’t know how any of these bastards sleep at night, knowing how much they’ve hurt us all. There’s one clear popular direction for this party, and it’s not behind Chuck Schumer, nor any of these spineless, feckless cowards.
