Vidkun Quisling (1887–1945) was a Norwegian politician and military officer who is infamous for his collaboration with Nazi Germany during World War II. Initially serving as a diplomat and defense minister in Norway, he later founded the fascist Nasjonal Samling party.
In 1940, during the German invasion of Norway, Quisling declared himself head of a pro-Nazi government, though his rule was largely symbolic under German control. His name became synonymous with "traitor." After the war, he was arrested, tried for treason, and executed in 1945. His legacy remains one of disgrace in Norwegian history.
I believe we are at a turning point in American history. The CR, as passed, effectively legitimizes and further enables the Trump/Musk assault on the American Constitution. Opposing it is our last opportunity to limit the damage they are inflicting.
My starting point is that while both parties once primarily served corporate interests, the Republican Party has now fully transformed into the party of Plutocrats. Corporations seek stability; Plutocrats thrive on chaos. Our Democratic Senators built their careers on maintaining the stability that corporations depend on, which is why so many struggle to adapt to this new reality. Many fear instability more than political irrelevance and would rather surrender to the Trump/Musk junta than risk upsetting the interests that have elevated them to wealth and power. There is precedent for this—it’s not so different from being a Roman Senator under Caligula.
That is why I propose we maintain the Quisling List—a record of Democrats who, for whatever reason, have chosen to ignore their oath of office and deliver us into MAGA control. Jared Golden, the only House Democrat to support the CR, holds the dubious distinction of being the first to publicly surrender to Trump, and it appears John Fetterman will be the second.
Someday this will be over, and we need to keep track of who we could rely on, and who was willing to collaborate with the forces working to destroy America.
