It's time for a color revolution of our own [1]

I attended a very crowded town hall meeting held by our local congressperson, Katherine Clark, last Saturday. Our state Attorney General, Andrea Campbell, was also present to describe what the blue state AGs are doing to stop some of the more egregious actions by the Trump regime. The mood was dark, with a lot of scared, confused and angry people looking for comfort and direction. And I admit that I did not leave the meeting feeling any more comforted, less confused or less angry than before. The Democratic minority in Congress has little influence other than to make noise, and although Campbell is a true firebrand, she must work through a court system and build strong cases to have any effect. With the deluge of stupidity and evil coming out of Washington these days, this is a little like trying to put out a forest fire with a garden hose.
On Sunday, though, I got a video from a friend showing the ongoing demonstrations in Georgia against the pro-Russian government there. A large, peaceful crowd holding banners and lit candles were singing something (I assume a national anthem). These demonstrations have been going on for months, and show no sign of stopping. The Georgians successfully ousted a Russian puppet government in the Rose Revolution (2003). The Ukrainians did the same in the 2004 Orange Revolution, as did Moldova in 2009 and Armenia in 2018. I have met some of the folks involved in the peaceful Leipzig protests that brought down the DDR in 1989.
Now we have our own pro-Russian, antidemocratic and authoritarian regime. Are we less brave than those marching in the streets of Tblisi, or fighting and dying for their freedom in Ukraine? Congressperson Clark could not call for revolution, but she did point out the importance of people pressure in fighting the current battles.
Here are my thoughts about goals for the Magenta Revolution (see figure caption for the explanation of that...):
1) Call for the resignation of the Trump regime and the removal of the anti-competent apparatchiks and Russian dupes that have been put in charge of the Federal government.
2) Call for a special election to replace them, with the proviso that no convicted felon be allowed to run. These elections should be held within two months of the resignations, so that there isn’t time for people to forget the disaster that Trump/Vance/Musk have caused. Funding for the campaigns would be limited to private donations; No PAC money permitted.
3) Call for a retroactive fifteen-year limit on Supreme Court appointments.
Much as Putin is supported by the wealthy oligarchs who have benefited from his rule, so we have our own oligarchy controlling the flow of information while they accumulate vast wealth at the expense of the rest of us. Support for independent news sources or those newspapers or media outlets not yet swallowed by the oligarchy is critical for keeping the lines of communication open.
Government at any level is supposed to be a service. I pay my taxes so roads get fixed, I am protected from enemies and criminals, my children get educated, and health care is available. US citizens have for many years assumed that regardless of which party was in power, things would work out, and somebody in the federal government had their safety and best interests in mind. We have been complacent for too long, waiting for somebody else to fix things. But it may be that the only people who can fix things is us.
