If anyone is wondering how the SSA is doing today [1]

I had a question for retirement planning purposes that is not (clearly) addressed on the web site. Since I’m not a lawyer and parsing the US code doesn't seem practical to me (and it’s a simple yes/no answer that I’m looking for), I thought I’d make an appointment at the local SSA office to get it answered. The website says to call the national 800 number. After dealing with the worst voice-powered assistant I have dealt with in a long time (gotta love those government contractors delivering substandard tech at premium prices), I finally convinced it to connect me to an agent. And then I was told it was a minimum 120 minute wait to speak to an agent.

So I called the local office direct, the phone was answered by a pleasant person who told me I could just walk in to get my question answered.
