Rachel Maddow did it again! She exposed the terrified GOP House members for the cowards they are on her show last night.
The Dems had an easy way to stop TFGe’s tariffs madness by simply requiring a vote in the House to take back its tariff authority. He decided to illegally impose them on February 1 because in his twisted mind he believed there were “unusual and extraordinary” external threats to the national security, foreign policy, or economy of the U.S., so according to the International Emergency Econimic Powers Act of 1977 (IEEPA) he could impose tariffs.
NO SUCH THREATS EXIST !
House Democrats had planned to force a vote on resolutions to end the tariffs on Mexico and Canada, a move allowed under the National Emergencies Act, which provides a mechanism for Congress to terminate an emergency like the one TFG declared when he imposed the tariffs.
The national emergency law lays out a fast-track process for Congress to consider a resolution ending a presidential emergency, requiring committee consideration within 15 calendar days after one is introduced and a floor vote within three days after that. But the language House Republicans inserted in their measure on Tuesday declared that:
“Each day for the remainder of the 119th Congress shall not constitute a calendar day” for the purposes of the emergency that Mr. Trump declared on February 1.
WOW!!! That means we have just one day instead of 273 until the 119th Congress ends on, probably, January 3, 2026, and the Dems plan was neutered! In what universe is that possible?
The GOP weaklings in the House completely capitulated to TFG’s tariffs tantrum! They abdicated their congressional responsibility entirely, which is no surprise consideirng they have been doing this since January 20, 2025!
We are now all living in an alternate universe where wrong is right, and up is down! It’s like a neverending episode of “The Twilight Zone!”
