I don't really fit in here... [1]

..being rather non-interactive.

That doesn't mean I'm not of like mind... DK is my first stop on my hour long, 8 or 9 site trip around the internets every morning. I peruse the posts, pick out a dozen or so I'm intrigued by, copy and paste to a Word doc, print them up, then read them over a bowl of soup (or something of the sort), prior to taking my 'noonish' nap.

When I awake, it's time to get something done around the homestead, therefore I am remiss in not going back and recommending articles or commenting on them, no matter how good they are. And then, another day rolls around. Thus.... non-interactive.

Whatever/whenever I do post... they are mainly my 'letters to the editor' to my local newspaper, something I've been doing for 30+ years, in an extremely red state. Not an easy thing to do, but someone has to, and taking on the religious nuts and magas has always been fulfilling for me.

And that's what I want to talk about.

Preaching to the choir. That ridiculously overused, yet accurate, cliché. That's what sites like this mostly do, as I think we can all agree. Not that it doesn't have tremendous value. For many of those like me, relatively isolated in magaland, it can be our only sense of 'community' and shared ideas/values. But it's still the 'choir'. Those shared ideas/values are not getting where they need to be... to that 10-15% non-maga (I'm being intentionally optimistic) republican/independent. That's what I attempt to do - at least the past few years - with my 'letters to the editor' effort, targeting that 10-15%.

I realize this is not an option for many, as newspapers that encourage a diversity of opinion, and print them, are few and far between. I have been extremely lucky in that regard, although I fear continued cuts will threaten that avenue in the near future.

But if this is an option for you, I encourage you to do it, and especially now more than ever. There is, and increasingly will be, a lot of low hanging fruit, waiting to be plucked. Writing into your local paper is akin to knocking on doors, but a lot less risky (though not risk free).

So anyway, that's my story. I'm probably going to post some of those I've sent to the paper recently, but I'll be sure to point out that they are in the 'letter to the editor' format, not the 'diary' format.

Actually here is a rather short one, not done for the paper (have 3 others in the queue), but for my wife on FB, after a recent dustup she had with some 'friends'.

It's not you, it's me.

There are millions of people right now engaged in a not too pleasant analysis of their interpersonal relationships.

Friends, family, and acquaintances are faced with decisions they would rather not have to make. But the 2024 election forced their hand.

Many of you who voted for and support what Trump/Musk are doing seem perplexed by the source of this perceived alienation, assuming it's about one thing or the other; something someone said, or posted, or liked.

But it's a little more complex than that.

We've come to the conclusion that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to carry on as if nothing was happening, with those who fervently embrace what is happening.

There's no way that can work. That 'elephant' is simply too big, and dangerously abhorrent.

Things are going to get very, very ugly in this country, and soon. That's why we feel the need to realign our interactions and priorities, focusing more on the most vulnerable (the ones they go after first, in traditional 'punching down' Republican fashion), and on what can be done to stop the overthrow of our constitutional system.

If, by some miracle, this coup can be stopped before irreparable damage is done, and we can get back to 'normal', where it actually is just political differences between us, another realignment is possible.

But not until then. Too much is at stake.
